Kitchen timer

Our kitchen timer had become unreliable, not beeping loudly, even with new batteries.

I took it apart to have a look at what the issue was.

This showed suspicious dirt build up, that happens near cooking hobs around the switch. So I used the Video Microscope, kindly donated by Gosport Rotary Club, to take a closer look.

This showed grease had got into the switch, potentially preventing a good contact. So I used switch contact cleaner, to dissolve and wash out the debris. This should be done in a well-ventilated area.

I then reassembled the timer and tested it.

I then tested it turning it off and back on many times, checking the volume each time. It has gone back into service again.
