Introduction
Repair Cafe Gosport began in a well-equipped maker space. However, we now run our events in community venues. One disadvantage of this approach is that most volunteers need to bring their tools, which creates a barrier for some individuals to participate in volunteering unable to bring their own for whatever reason. All our volunteers are willing to lend out their tools, but this runs the risk of creating a hierarchy among our volunteers, which we want to eliminate.
Our Goal was to create a set of toolkits with a target budget of £67 that our volunteers could use. That budget was chosen to allow people or organisations to sponsor a toolkit for a moderate donation.
Dick Field kindly donated the money for the first 3 of these kits and we tested them at our event in May 2024.
